ya it’s kinda backwards, but it strangely makes sense. Her ultimate goal is to survive. It so happens that the most effective way that she can find is to leave everything and become independent. However, she can’t exactly burn bridges the direct way because them hating her would only speed up the bad ending, and because they find her abandoning the role they had for her (political tool to link with the royal family) to be disadvantageous. So now she plans to get into their good graces, so that hopefully, with enough browny points saved up, she can pace the way to an amicable exit.
